Growing organically from a grassroots effort selling handmade graphic tees on the streets of Cincinnati, the Native brand was founded by Queen City transplant Jay Banks in 2013 while working at Scotts LawnService. Banks’s innovative vision eventually earned him a retail space inside Procter & Gamble’s Over-the-Rhine pop-up shop for entrepreneurs, where he stayed from 2017 to 2018. In winter 2019, he moved the brand into a short-term pop-up space at The Levee and has since become a mainstay of the destination. The interactive clothing store sells men’s, women’s and children’s apparel, hats and other accessories, and skateboards. It also has a direct-to-garment printer, allowing custom-printed merchandise to be created in minutes, and the hidden MadScientist® Laboratory.
